The OU’s K20 GEAR UP grant, which is a part of a federally funded program, offers several advantages to students and families. Here are some key benefits: College Preparation: The program provides resources and support to help students prepare for college, including academic tutoring, college readiness workshops, and standardized test preparation. Academic Support: Students receive additional academic support such as mentoring, after-school programs, and enrichment activities to improve their performance and confidence. Financial Assistance: Families benefit from information and resources on financial aid, scholarships, and college funding options, which can help alleviate the financial burden of higher education. Parental Engagement: The program often includes workshops and resources for parents to better support their children's educational journey and understand the college application process. Career Exploration: Students gain access to career exploration activities and guidance, helping them to understand various career paths and the educational requirements for their chosen fields. Long-term Impact: By fostering early college and career readiness, the grant helps increase the likelihood of high school graduation and successful college enrollment, ultimately supporting long-term academic and career success. Overall, the GEAR UP grant aims to improve educational outcomes and increase access to higher education for underrepresented students and their families.
